On November 10, 2016 I was elected Dean of the Academy of Certified Trial Lawyers of Minnesota (ACTLM) for 2017. Although being elected Dean has some personal significance to me, it is the organization rather than my election that is important. The ACTLM was founded in 1982 by leading jurists and trial attorneys as an organization for Minnesota trial attorneys who pass competency testing and have the requisite litigation experience to be certified as trial specialists by the Minnesota State Bar Association.
The ACTLM like national organizations such as the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) are important to attorneys because they encourage and foster professionalism, advocate for the jury system and provide valuable information about trial practice. The factors important to attorneys should also be important to people injured in accidents. When selecting an attorney to represent you, consider all qualifications including certification when making that decision.
